STINGLESS BEES PROJECT.

Stingless Bees, sometimes caled stingless honey bees or simply Meliponines, are a large group of bees (about 500 species). Meliponines have stingers, but they are highly reedused and cannot be used for defense. Meliponines are not the only type of "stingless " bee; male bees and bees of several other species, such as in the family Andrenidae, also cannot sting.

Stingless bees collect nectar, which they store in an extension of their gut called a crop. back at the hive, the ripen or dehydrate the nectar droplets by spinning them inside their mouthparts until honey is formed.

Ripening concentrates the nectar and increase sugar content , though it is not nearly as concentrated as the honey from the true honey bees; it is much thinner in consistency, and more prone to spoiling.

Honey as food:

nutritional profile The composition of honey is mainly sugars and water. in addition, it also contains several vitamins and minerals, including B vitamins. The other constituents of honey are amino acids; antibiotic- rich inhibin, proteins, phenol antioxidants, and micronutrients. the sugars in honey are sweeter and give more energy than artificial sweeteners, and the most abundant sugar in honey is fructose. the high nutritional profile  of honey with wide range of nutrients (although in minute quantities), encourages its use as food.

Digestion and absorption; natural honey contain several enzymes which enhance the digestion of food substances especially carbohydrates such as sugars and starch. The additional benefit of eating honey as a source of energy aver the commonly used artificial sugar is that, the major sugar constituents of natural honey are pre4sent as monosaccharides ( simple sugars) unlike the refined sugar (sucrose) which normally has to undergo the processes of digestion into simpler forms prior to their absorption, these sugar molecules in natural honey are in pre- digested forms, and can be directly absorbed into the human system. apart from giving nutrition, the use of honey as sweetening agent in sweets and desserts is also beneficial.

Medicinal properties of honey.

Hematology and immunity Honey has been found to be beneficial to  people suffering from Anemia. The study recorded improved hemoglobin concentration (iron constituent of natural honey played an important role in this), increased  erythrocyte count and elevated hematocrit in the honey eaters. Human subjects administered with two honey treatments in California study show that honey eaters have the benefit of hepatoprotection in addition to blood proliferation. the researchers observed that the aqueous portion of the blood (plasma) is protected by honey.

STING LESS BEES EXPERIENCE TOUR.

In this tour you will be first exposed to our botanical gardens arround the Homestay. The aim is to see how the beautified environment has influenced the establishment of this educational project. At Themi Valley, we have planted various flowers and trees  all of which attracts bees and other insects. From flowers is where pollen and nectar to produce honey can be collected by bees. After looking around, go back to our bees farm, which is just created at the edge of our house roof. We have total of 25 bees logs with different sizes.
In this tour, you will be provided with informations about the life of stingless bees, uniqueness of this bee species from stinging bees, production capacity, harvesting time after creation of the log, packaging of honey, how to create logs and how to get the bee Quine to produce honey. Hanging and unhanging  of the logs. All these information will go hand in hand with action, whenever possible. We do this as we believe that learning by doing is more convenient on understanding comparing to theoretical learning. You can est our honey to get a different test from normal honey.
After your tour, get a
100 mills of bottle of honey as a souvenir to take home for use.
